Space Invaders is back for 5th season and the 5 impacts we see of extreme cluttering

Living with clutter can hinder life in many ways as we see in each episode and we’ve gained so much insight in previous seasons (such as how to declutter). Some of the ways this can impact life are not always obvious. Each story shines a light on different ways it can hinder everyday life. Five of the ways seen so far this season that stood out are:

1. The inability to host guests due to lack of space leads to loneliness
2. Home starts to lack functionality and difficult to perform everyday tasks
3. Spaces are not comfortable, and home should be a place of comfort!
4. Feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start to declutter
5. Family and relationship strain due to mess and clutter

This season the stories and homes will stay with the viewer for long after watching. There are many reasons homes become so cluttered they’re not functional and this season we see a range of health and family struggles that have led them to this place. In episode 5, Dianne, a loving and generous grandmother has amassed so much that she’s unable to have visitors at her home anymore including her adoring family. Caring for both her mother and her husband leaves Dianne struggling to cope with her copious collections.

Enter Peter, the clutter expert who guided Diane and her worried daughter Sonia through the process of thinning out her enormous collection of festive decorations threatening to take over the home completely. Peter was able to get to the crux of the collecting and understood that Diane loved spreading joy through her vast Christmas, Halloween and Easter decorations. By working alongside Sonia, they were able to minimise the clutter (over 300 Santas alone!) to a reasonable amount, including passing on some of the collection to grandchildren.

Back at the home, Cherie undertook a huge renovation now that the spaces were clear from piles of junk. Functioning living spaces have been created for Sonia to enjoy with her family again.
